EPUAP study: Multiple lesions in a person with scleroderma – Pain reduction with honey gel (PUSH® score) / Estudio EPUAP: lesiones múltiples en paciente con esclerodermia - reducción del dolor con gel a base de miel (puntuación PUSH ®)

During the EPUAP 14th annual European Pressure Ulcer Meeting in Oporto (Portugal) dr Rui Carvalho and his team presented an interesting case.
 
A 60 year old female with scleroderma and severe pulmonary hypertension with three wounds in her right leg. Previous treatments with e.g. alginates, collagen or silicone failed; the treatment was started with L-Mesitran Hydro.
 
The honey treatment allowed the control of non-viable tissue, the decrease of exudate and the increase of the granulation tissue. However, the most relevant change (measured in PUSH score) was the pain reduction. During the treatment no additional antibiotics were administered and therefore hospitalization was avoided.

Durante la 14 edición del EPUAP, Encuentro anual europeo de úlceras por presión en Oporto (Portugal) el Dr. Rui de Carvalho y su equipo presentaron un caso interesante.

Una mujer de 60 años de edad con esclerodermia e hipertensión pulmonar severa, presentaba tres heridas en su pierna derecha. La paciente recibió tratamientos previos, específicamente con alginatos, colágeno y silicona que fueron fallidos; se inició entonces un tratamiento con L-Mesitran Hydro.

El tratamiento con miel permitió el control del tejido no viable, disminuyó la cantidad de exudado y aumentó la formación de tejido granular. Sin embargo, el cambio más relevante (medido en la escala PUSH) fue la reducción del dolor. Durante el tratamiento no se administraron antibióticos adicionales y por lo tanto se evitó la hospitalización.
